Vilmart et Cie Grande Réserve Premier Cru Brut NV (OC3)
Description

5th generation Laurent Champs has been leading this great estate since 1989 in the village of Rilly-la-Montagne, with 11ha of vineyards of larger parcels, spanning only to the neighbouring village. For over 30 years, extensive soil work through the use of organic and sustainable viticulture with no use of chemicals help to keep all vines and soils healthy. There is also much attention in the gravity-fed winery, where Laurent prefers the traditional Coquard press and oak barrels of many sizes for the fermentation (5500L, 600L, 228L), with malo avoided. To quote Laurent, “I make wine first, and the bubbles afterwards.” Many would agree that the wines in the Vilmart lineup have extraordinary class, finesse, & elegance!

Tasting Note
With equal parts of the 2022 base vintage and reserve wines (from 2021 and 2020), the latest release of Vilmart & Cie’s NV Grande Réserve was disgorged in July 2024 with a dosage of six grams per liter. Heavily based on Pinot Noir and vinified in large foudres, some as old as 50 years, it offers up aromas of peach, ripe lemon and pear. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with an expressive profile, laden with tangy acidity, it concludes with a long, expansive finish. Compared to Vilmart’s premium NV Grand Cellier, the Grande Réserve is a more generous, charming style of cuvée, which can be attributed to its powerful Pinot Noir component. - (Wine Advocate)
