Domaine Séguin-Manuel Puligny-Montrachet "Vieilles Vignes" 2011

The sample of 2011 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Vieille Vignes tasted at the property was off, but I am so glad that Thibaut popped a replacement in the post because it is his best wine of the vintage. The nose shimmers with delineation: crisp lime, orange zest and a touch of flint define the aromatics, while the palate is just beautifully balanced and focused, retaining impressive poise from first opening until one hour later. This is perhaps one of the finest whites I have tasted from Seguin-Manuel. Drink now-2020. I have written about Seguin-Manuel on many occasions, ever since a memorable tasting of ancient negociant vintages back in 2005 that elicited more perfect scores than any other (three to be exact.) Winemaker and proprietor Thibault Marion’s wines have little in common with those historical bottles, but he is carving a name for himself as one of Burgundy’s most thoughtful winemakers.
