Penetrating, high-toned suggestions of kirsch and mirabelle distillate in the nose of Deiss’s 2008 Pinot Gris have their counterpart in fruit pit piquancy on an oily palate bright by the standards of this grape variety but not those of this vintage. An aura of smoked meat pate adds a Pinot Gris-typical dimension that persists in the finish. This is certainly a distinctive if by no means harmonious variation on its grape. (The voluminous, glycerin-rich Deiss 2009 Pinot Gris – which I tasted on two occasions four months apart – possessed an oddly decadent as well as spirituous and faintly acrid aromatic notes and a diffuse finish.) - (Wine Advocate)
